VIJAYAWADA: A 24-year-old bridegroom ran away from his marriage in the late hours of Saturday at Koundinya Nagar near NSM Public School in Patamata here.
According to Patamata CI K Damodar, the muhurat was at 10.08 am. The bridegroom D Srikanth (24), an autodriver hailing from Khammam district, was to get married to P Vijaya (23).Srikanth’s family had arrived at Vijaya’s house on Saturday evening. Srikanth ran away in the late hours of Saturday. Bride’s relatives say that he was paid `50,000 on the day of engagement itself of the total `1.25 lakh dowry promised. Srikanth’s mother D Kamala said that she did not know where his son had gone and claimed that she was innocent. Vijaya’s parents lodged a complaint with police against Srikanth for cheating them. A case has been registered.
