ONGOLE:A 16-year-old girl died and a 21-year-old man suffered injuries when a speeding lorry hits the benches at the Shanti Bus stop in Addanki Police Limits on Monday.
According to Addanki SI Ch Venkateswarlu, the mishap took place when the driver of a lorry bearing No: TN 18-M-4794, heading towards Addanki from Santamagaluru, travelling at high-speed lost the control while overtaking a car from the left and hit a pair of benches located on the bus stop. The driver did not stop the vehicle and fled from the spot.
In the accident, J Mounica, a Polytechnic student from Uppalapadu and Neelam Mani Teja (21) were waiting for a bus. Mounica was crushed under the front wheels of the lorry and died on the spot, while Teja jumped off to the other side and suffered leg injury.
Teja was taken to Narsaraopet government hospital for medical treatment. Mounica’s father J Narasimha Rao lodged a complaint at the Addanki Police station. Police traced the lorry and took the driver into custody. A case has been registered and investigation is on.
