VIJAYAWADA: CPI sate secretary K Ramakrishna on Tuesday said his party opposed the amendment to the Land Acquisition Act sought to be made by the BJP since it portended threat to the farmers’ livelihood.

Speaking at a party city committee meeting here, Ramakrishna said that the amendment sought to be made to the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 would invest the states with powers to snatch agriculture land from farmers. AT present, the Act says that the government cannot acquire lands of farmers without their consent.

He said the Modi government had brought in the amendment only to take agriculture land from farmers and hand them over to real estate developers and the corporate sector. He wished the Jail Bharo in the city on May 14 a success.
