VISAKHAPATNAM:The University Grants Commission (UGC) and Andhra University (AU) have conferred autonomous status on Anil Neerukonda Institute of Technology and Sciences (ANITS) here Friday. AU vice-chancellor GSN Raju presented the relevant certificate to ANITS secretary and correspondent V Thapovardhan who was accompanied by principal VSRK Prasad.
During the inspection conducted by the UGC and the AU, ANITS fulfilled all the criteria to become an autonomous college. ANITS now would be eligible to make their own syllabus and would declare the examination dates individually. The papers would be evaluated by the college staff themselves.
The certificate would carry the affiliation of Andhra University provided to the students by the college.
Achieving laurels is not new to ANITS. Since 2001 it has won reaccreditation by the NBA, accreditation by NAAC with ‘A’ grade, recognition by the AU as a ‘research centre’ and was chosen as a ‘skill development centre’ by the Andhra Pradesh government. It also received UGC recognition under 2(f) & 12(b), besides recognition as ‘Centre of Excellence’ by Infosys.
After considering various factors, including facilities and placements offered at ANITS, the UGC and the AU sanctioned the autonomous status to the college. Prasad said the credit goes to the faculty, students and other colleagues of his team, besides the continuous encouragement and support from the management in providing necessary resources.
