Girls Headed for Labour Work Rescued

VIZIANAGARAM:RPF personnel along with the members of Child Welfare Committee raided a train at Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Berhampur railway stations and rescued 19 girls suspecting them to be victims of trafficking. However, officials later said that they are labourers heading to West Godavari district. According to Vizianagaram GRP Inspector Y Murali, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) officials had reportedly called the GRP alerting them that the girls were being trafficked on the Puri-Tirupati train. In the absence of women constables, GRP approached RPF. The police said that CWC authorities have traced 10 girls in Berhampur and five girls in Srikakulam. The GRP at Vizianagaram also rescued four girls. “All the girls hails fromregions of Puri and had no documents proving their age ” said Murali. Police said that the girls were poor and none of them knew Telugu. CWC authorities have retained the girls for counselling.
