
VISAKHAPATNAM: Commissioner of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Pravin Kumar, seized five lorries which have been dumping building debris on the RK Beach Road Friday. All the seized vehicles are presently at the GVMC administration building. Despite GVMC’s strong appeal to the public against dumping building debris on the roads and other public areas, the environmentally-destructive activity is being continued by a few unconcerned individuals.
Taking a serious note of the issue, Pravin Kumar directed the officials to seize the vehicles and also impose huge amounts as penalty. Following the commissioner’s directions, City Chief Planner D Venkataratnam said that a special team was formed to seize these vehicles.
As part of his regular morning visits, the commissioner visited various places in the city including Kancharapalem, Jagjeevannagar, Ramji Estate and Indiranagar areas were he found large amounts of building debris and directed the officials to initiate action against those responsible.
The commissioner had also visited JNNURM Housing Colony, Gajuwaka and inquired the prevailing conditions of their street lights, drinking water supply and sanitation works.
