VISAKHAPATNAM: Extreme heat conditions kept public off the roads, but Sunday early morning a large number of dog lovers came together for a special session ‘heel walking’ organised by Little Paws. The session was conducted to discuss precautionary measures for dogs to combat summer with a specific focus on adapting to the rising mercury this season.
Around 45 people gathered along with 38 dogs at YMCA. The event was special as an exclusive session of “heel walking” was conducted where the owners taught their pets to walk in proper sync under the guidance of trainer Aravind. The owners shared their experiences on how their dogs were behaving and coping during summer. The event was followed by birthday celebrations of one of the dogs.
Apart from these activities, the trainer shared some necessary tips to keep pets comfortable in the scorching heat. Some tips which were discussed were that the dogs should be taken for walks only before sunrise and after sunset.
They must be given a lot of liquids and boiled food. Owners were also told to avoid leashing pets for a long time. Besides, proper grooming is required as summer results in a lot of hair fall. Lastly, ample amount of water should be provided.
