Maoists, Cops Exchange Fire in Vizag Agency

VISAKHAPATNAM:  An exchange of fire between Maoists and Special team of Police took place near Cheedipalli forest region of Gorrellametta area under Boodaralla panchayat in Koyyuru mandal of Visakahapatnam agency Wednesday morning. According to sources, the firing took place at 10.15 am and lasted for around 15 minutes.

According to district police sources, the Maoists opened the fire to stop the police from combing operation and to escape from the area. A group of around 10 to 15 Maoists engaged the security personnel in a gun fight, from a distance of around 800 meters. However, the Maoists reportedly managed to escape from the spot.

After the exchange of fire at Bejjangi on the Andhra-Odisha border, this was the second firing incident. 

However, the incident has led to an intensified combing operations at Koyyuru, Chintapalli, GK Veedhi and a few other areas in the agency.
