Stress on PNDT Act Implementation

VIJAYAWADA:Emphasising upon the need for implementing the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1994 (PNDT) and other related Acts in a more effective manner, district medical and health officer R Nagamalleswari directed the officials concerned to initiate tough measures against the diagnostic centres flouting the norms.

Participating in an advisory committee meeting on enforcement of PNDT Act in its true spirit here Tuesday, she said there are a total 248 ultra scanning centres in the district and another 11 centres are awaiting approval.

Stating that there will be no compromise in implementation of PNDT Act, she asked the diagnostic centres to display their registration certificates and signs stating that no gender determination (sex determination) test for the unborn will be conducted.
