GUNTUR:Mild tension prevailed at Mangalagiri in Guntur district after the police detained Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) founder-president Mandakrishna Madiga and some of his followers on Sunday.

After arriving in Mangalagiri town, the MRPS founder addressed a gathering at the Ambedkar statue and from there. Later, he along with his followers, began a rally, despite the police not giving permission.

With MRPS activists along with Mandakrishna Madiga going ahead with their rally, police took them into custody despite facing stiff resistance from the MRPS cadre.

Resenting the arrest of Madiga, MRPS activists staged a rasta roko outside the Mangalagiri police station for some time.
