VIJAYAWADA: With the city being made the temporary seat of the state administration and base camp for construction of the state capital, focus has now shifted to beautification of the city, particularly roadsides and canals.
Following CM N Chandrababu Naidu’s instructions, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has started beautification works starting with Bandar canal. In the first phase, the overgrown shrubs along the canal on both banks from Prakasam Barrage to RTC Bus Station will be removed using earth movers.
Special teams have been used for clearing and cleaning both banks of the canal and hand it over to the consultancy for maintenance. VMC commissioner G Veerapandian supervising the works asked for deployment of an additional team to complete the works at the earliest. Once the first phase is completed, the next one will be taken up.
