City to Host Chess Tourney from Sept 24

VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada will be hosting All India FIDE-rated Open Chess Tournament from September 24 to 27 at Krishna District Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition Society Hall in Jawahar Autonagar here. The event is being organised by Tummalapalli Chess Academy affiliated to the AP Chess Association.

Federation Internationale des Echecs or World Federation (FIDE) master M Srinivasa Rao will be among the players who have so far confirmed participation. Others include International Masters CRJ Krishna, Ravi Teja and N Krishna Teja, AP Chess Association general secretary Devaram Srihari told mediapersons here on Wednesday.

He said 250 to 300 players are expected to take part in the tournament which would be held in five categories - under-7, under-9, under-11, under-13 and under-15.

The total prize money that would go to the players would be Rs 1.5 lakh.
