Museum to Get Rs 1 Crore Facelift

Revamping includes establisment of cafeteria and a gift shop

VISAKHAPATNAM:The Visakha Heritage Museum on the Beach Road is all set to get a facelift at a cost of Rs 1 crore. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has prepared a plan for renovation of the museum to attract tourists and conduct more art and cultural events. The plan will be executed ahead of the International Fleet Review 2016, scheduled in February.

During the museum advisory committee meeting held here Friday, GVMC commissioner Pravin Kumar said that the entrance would be redesigned with new look and conservation of the damaged sculptures, paintings and other art work will be taken up on priority as per the guidance of experts. “Besides improving the art gallery to hold meetings, efforts will be made to establish a cafeteria and also make more artistic works available at the souvenir shop for the benefit of tourists visiting the museum,” he elaborated.

Pravin Kumar said that plans were afoot to showcase various gold, silver and other  ornaments along with valuable items available with the Archaeology department using high-security showcase to woo more visitors.
