Diamond Jewellery Stolen in Train

VISAKHAPATNAM:Some unidentified persons stole 84 grams diamond jewellery worth Rs 12 lakh from a passenger of Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Duronto Superfast Express in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Former Army officer and one of the directors of GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research YLV Rao boarded the train in Secunderabad in the H-1 compartment. Rao had kept the valuables in the pouch of his suitcase along with Rs 1,100 cash and his identity card. He found the pouch missing when the train crossed Anakapalle station. He lodged a complaint with the Government Railway Police, Visakhapatnam.

Duronto Express has no halt between Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam except for a brief stoppage for technical reasons at Vijayawada.

However, some passengers happened to have spotted the ID card and pouch on the floor of the compartment. The GRP registered a case and are investigating.
