TD Bags 2 Wards in Andaman Civic Polls

HYDERABAD:Making its debut outside the two Telugu States, the TDP has won two wards in the municipal election of Port Blair, the capital of the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Elections to the Port Blair Municipal Councils were conducted on September 19 and the results were declared Tuesday. Interestingly, TDP stood in the second position in 16 wards. Out of 24 wards, the BJP won 10 and the Congress six. TDP grabbed the third slot with two seats while DMK and AIDMK won one seat each. The victory has come as a boost to the party which is planning to contest polls in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Expressing happiness over the Port Blair victory, TDP leader  N Lokesh has said, “This is our first victory after we decided to graduate into a national party. This is only the beginning. We would expand to other States soon.”
