BJP-TDP Rift over Graft in GMP Works

RAJAHMUNDRY: Differences have cropped up between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders in the city over the alleged rampant corruption that had taken place in the recent Godavari Maha Pushkaralu-2015 works.

While the BJP, an ally of the ruling TDP in the state, has been demanding an enquiry into the alleged misuse of funds spent on the Pushkaralu works, the latter has been ignoring the same.

During the GMP, some corporators of Rajamundry had direcly or indirectly supplied meals to the sanitation workers and had submitted bills to the tune of Rs 1.85 cr. However, Mayor Pantham Rajani Sesha Sai,  doubting the claims, had stopped the payments for two months, leading to an uproar among the corpoators.

At a recent Municipal council meeting, it was decided to publish a White Paper on the amounts spent for GMP works.
