GUNTUR: Tension prevailed in Macherla town with activists of the TDP and YSRC resorting to stone-pelting during Ganesh immersion procession on Sunday.

While taking Ganesh idols installed by both the parties for immersion, activists of the parties exchanged heated words as to who will go first, which in no time escalated into stone-pelting.

Responding immediately, police personnel on bandobast duty swung into action and succeeded in dispersing the mobs. Though the situation was brought under control, police deployed additional forces in the town anticipating trouble. Though there were reports of injuries in the clash, the number of the injured was not ascertained by the police yet.
