According to sources, the hostellers found worms in ‘Upma’ served for breakfast, which was prepared by cooks in the hostel. The girls boycotted breakfast and lunch and staged a dharna on the hostel premises. One of the students fainted during the dharna in the afternoon.

The students alleged that the food which is being prepared in the hostel was completely contaminated. Students have been facing the issue since long and the officials never bothered even after bringing them to their notice, a student told newsmen.

Srikakulam MLA Gunda Lakshmidevi, who came to know about the issue, reached the spot and spoke to the students. She ticked off the hostel authorities, including the warden, after the students complained to her. She also promised to sort out their demands by talking to the district collector.
