BJP central leadership takes serious note of CM's comments on Jaitley, seeks report

HYDERABAD: Even as the TDP leadership has decided to adopt a ‘wait-and-watch’ approach over the issue of snapping its ties with the BJP, the saffron party is learnt to have taken serious note of the comments made by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday over Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley’s reply given in Rajya Sabha on special status issue.

Sources in the state BJP unit disclosed that hours after Naidu’s comments that “Jaitley’s reply on special status issue was not acceptable,” to him, the saffron party Central leadership sought a detailed report from the party’s Andhra Pradesh unit over the entire incident.

“Taken aback by the comments made by Chief Minister Naidu in his press conference saying that the special status promise was also made by BJP during the 2014 polls by incorporating it in its manifesto, our party top brass asked us to send a comprehensive report on Naidu’s remarks.”

“They also asked us to include the details of how the state diverted various Central funds so far released to it for Amaravati and other projects in the report,” the BJP leader told Express.

The leader also disclosed that TDP’s sudden aggressive posture towards the Central government had surprised the BJP central leadership.

“Our Delhi bosses are of the view that Naidu is caught in the Congress trap.”

“Modi government is trying to implement all promises made to Andhra Pradesh during bifurcation, one after another.”

“It is also trying to implement an alternative mechanism in lieu of special category status. But, even before its implementation, the TDP seems to be hastily attacking the Centre,” the senior leader commented.

According to sources, the way Naidu tried to corner Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that Modi had also made a promise on according special status to Andhra Pradesh during the 2014 election campaigns, also has not gone down well with the BJP leadership.

“Our party’s central leadership  is of the view that Congress laid a trap for Chandrababu Naidu by moving a private member bill on special status in the Rajya Sabha.”

“ Instead of cautiously reacting on the bill, the TDP has now fallen into the trap of Congress by openly criticising the Centre,” the leader said.
