2.65 lakh soak pits dug up in Srikakulam

SRIKKAULAM: The 70th Independence Day was celebrated in a grand manner across the district on Monday. Hoisting the Tricolour at Kodi Rammurthy Stadium at Srikakulam, minister K Atchannaidu said that about 10 lakh saplings were planted in a single day on July 29 under the Vanam-Manam programme in the district.

“The district has topped the state with digging up of 2.85 lakh soak pits to recharge the groundwater levels,” he said, adding that the Vamsadhara project works would be completed by 2017 June. 

Students performed cultural events and employees were felicitated for best performances.
