'Agri Zones in Capital Must Benefit Ryots'

GUNTUR:  Marking agricultural fields as agricultural zones in the new capital master plan is resulting in decline in the land value, CPI state assistant secretary Muppalla Nageswara Rao said.

At an awareness meeting on capital city master plan organised by the CPI here on Monday, he called for changes to the master plan so that the agricultural zones benefit the farmers. The agricultural zones are causing unrest among the farming community as the lands cannot be utilised for other purposes except cultivation, he added.

Speakers at the meeting also expressed apprehensions that development of Guntur city might be placed on the backburner by the State government. They called for concrete measures for the development of Guntur.
