CM Naidu in KCR's Footsteps,to Hold Household Survey

Move to create accurate database of socio-economic status of each caste

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who had earlier criticised his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao for holding Comprehensive Household Survey to create an accurate database of people and their socio-economic status in the new State, seems to have now decided to do the same in order to set up a record of socio-economic conditions of each caste in the reorganised State.

When leaders of Valmiki-Boya community urged Naidu to include their caste in the STs list as per the promise given to them during the last general elections, the Chief Minister told them that he would fulfill every promise made to each caste in the State after holding a survey to know the socio-economic profile of each community in the State.

The reason for Naidu’s decision to follow KCR and his proposal to conduct household survey in the State is that with each passing day more social communities in the State are coming out openly to exert pressure on the TDP government to ensure that their respective caste also gets reservation benefits in one way or another. In order to present their demand vociferously, they are referring to the promises made by Naidu himself during the 2014 polls to their respective caste.

Taking their cue from the ‘Kapus agitation’ for BC reservations, leaders of some more castes have begun pressurising the Chief Minister to keep his word given to their respective caste during the last general polls, even as Madigas are upping the ante against Naidu for fulfilling his long-pending promise with regard to SC categorisation.

For instance, Monday was the turn of leaders belonging to Valmiki-Boya community to ask Naidu to fulfill his promise made to them during last general polls that their caste to be included in ST category.

Similar to Boyas, another delegation of Muslims met the chief minister and sought his intervention for provision of five per cent reservations to them in education and jobs.

Earlier, a delegation of Boya caste leaders led by government chief whip Kaluva Srinivasulu met the Chief Minister at his camp office in Vijayawada and sought measures for including their caste in the STs.

Nadiu promised the delegation that he would do everything in his capacity to see that they would get ST status. The chief minister told them that he wanted to have a survey done on the socio-economic status of various castes in the state and take up welfare programmes accordingly to benefit them.
