Officials Focus on Traffic Issues Ahead of Pushkarams

VIJAYAWADA: Narrow roads in the one town area of Vijayawada have become vehicle users nightmare and are resulting in frequent traffic jams. More so, since the traffic has been diverted to Gollapalle area in view of Kanakadurga Flyover construction.

Further, the number of vehicle users too seems to have grown considerably, since Vijayawada had become the temporary seat of administration for the State government.

Now, with Krishna Pushkarams just months away, the city administration is searching for ways to address the traffic problem and ensure there are no hassles during the event.

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation had already decided to widen the roads at several places and during his visit to one town area, Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian discussed at length the chances of widening the existing roads in the one town with city planning officials.

It was found that low bridge is an important bottleneck and is holding up traffic for long. Officials were asked to look out for the possibilities of shifting the landing of foot over bridge and staircase to canal side.

Commissioner had also asked the officials to ensure that shops in Arjuna Veedi leading to the footpath to Goddess Durga Temple on Indrakeeladri are not violating the space restrictions and the road is in accordance with alignment. He asked the encroachments on the road be removed immediately.

Similarly, officials were asked to remove the encroachments over the drains in Brahmana Veedhi and taken up road widening works on war footing basis. He also wanted the officials to remove the temples on the drains.

Veerapandian, who noticed construction debris of a building under reconstruction near Komala Vilas obstructing the road movement, directed the officials concerned to impose `10,000 fine on the owner of the building.

In KT Road, he asked the officials to remove the compound wall of Annapurna Devi School, that is coming in the way of road widening and construct a new compound wall.
