460 acres in Krishna District Allotted for Mega Food Park

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh government, which wants to develop the new capital city, Amaravati, by setting up various industries around it in order to make it serve as the ‘economic powerhouse’ of the reorganised State, seems to have begun the process of allowing new industries to come up around the capital region.

In accordance with its plans to make ‘Gudivada corridor’ as a hub of green industries and agro-based industries, the State government, on Friday, alienated government land to an extent of 460 acres in Thotapalli Village in Agiripalli Mandal of Krishna district in favour of AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) for establishment of Mega Food Park.

According to a GO issued here in this regard, the land is located on high altitude of above 100 feet and covered by hillock with bushes, not proper in shape and uneven in dimension. The gram panchyat of Thotapalli had passed resolution for alienation of the said land.

“Government hereby orders for alienation of land to an extent of 460 acres in Sy No 2/1 of Thotapalli in Krishna district in favour of APIIC for establishment of Mega Food Park on payment of market value @ Rs6.00 lakh per acre,” the GO stated.

The order made it clear that the land should be utilised for the purpose for which it is allotted within three years of the orders of alienation. The water-bodies, if any existing on the land, should not be disturbed and should be allowed to continue their natural course.

In fact, the Union Food Processing Ministry had given its go ahead nod for AP government last April to set up a mega food park at Agiripalli. The park is proposed to be set up with Rs150 crore investment. The Centre had already allotted Rs50 crore as a grant-in-aid for the project, while the rest of the funds will be mobilised by the State government along with the promoter of the park.

As the proposed place in Krishna district is considered as the mango basket of AP, the State government is of the view that the proposed food park would transform the lives of the local farmers drastically.
