Note found near AP IPS officer Sasi Kumar's body suggests he was depressed

VISAKHAPATNAM: As expected, the death of Andhra Pradesh IPS K Sasi Kumar, who was found dead with a bullet injury in his chambers yesterday, was a case of suicide, police sources have said. However, the authorities are yet to admit it officially.

A note found near the body of Sasi Kumar is said to have suggested that he was ending his life due to stress. Officials have not revealed any more details from the letter. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) team has retrieved the note and the Clues team has scanned the area. The latter will submit a report after examining the handwriting in the note and fingerprints on the pistol. Police are also waiting for the postmortem report.

A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, told New Indian Express that the note was short and had no mention of the exact reason why Sasi Kumar decided to take his own life. "The note only had one line on his (Sasi Kumar's) professional life and a comment on his personal life. He did not blame his superiors or family members," he said.

The CID team will analyse the call data records of the IPS officer, said another officer. But sources said Sasi Kumar, posted as the assistant superintendent of police of Paderu, was blamed by his higher-ups for the landmine blast at Dhooliputtu in the Munchingput area in which a CRPF jawan was injured and for the death of a smuggler while escaping from the police in the Paderu region.

Some police officers said the ASP was depressed over official duty commitments in the tribal Agency area. "Sasi Kumar never shared his feelings with his colleagues. But he was depressed," said a police official. The CID team led by deputy superintendent of police Y V Naidu on Friday inspected the office-cum-residence of Sasi Kumar in Paderu. It collected fingerprint samples from the gun, and the note found near his body.

Sources said the team also collected the personal diary of Kumar. The CID interacted with every employee of the ASP's office. Sources in the CID said Sasi Kumar was depressed that he had failed in his professional life. He had requested that his note be made public if only his parents gave permission for it. His body was sent to Erode in Tamil Nadu on Friday.
