Cops seize ganja being smuggled in oil tanker

VISAKHAPATNAM: Four persons were arrested and 950 kg ganja worth more than `50 lakh was seized from them at Tummalapalem village of Anakapalle on Friday morning.

The  arrested were identified as D Emenjal (22), V Suryanarayana (44), Y Dileep Kumar (25) and MVR Murthy.

According to sources, the hemp was being smuggled to East Godavari from Pedabayalu of Vizag Agency in an oil tanker, which was intercepted near Tummalapalem area. This was the third such incident in recent times, that an oil tanker was used to smuggle ganja to evade officials.

Inspector of Anakapalle Town S Vidyasagar said that they intercepted the oil tanker and ganja from the vehicle. He added that the gang used fake registration number plates. “We are investigating the case and are looking to nab a few others in connection with the case”, the inspector added.
