VIJAYAWADA: Krishna District Private Engineering Colleges Association conducted a mega job mela for engineering students in the city on Monday. Over 4,500 students registered for this job mela and 13 companies like Infosys, Tech Mahindra, TCS and BSS took part in the job fair.
Engineering students, who graduated in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 and few other diploma and post graduate students attended the job fair. According to officials, over 2,500 of the total number consisted of those students who graduated in the years 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Speaking to Express, K Sowmya, a student who graduated in 2016, in ECE stream, said that not many colleges are conducting campus recruitments, which are publicised at the time of admissions. She said: “At the time of admissions, most of the colleges claim that large number of companies are visiting them and recruiting students.
But in reality, only few companies are stepping and that too they are recruiting for BPOs. What role does a graduate from Electronics have in BPO? So job fairs like these are a boon to us and must be conducted often.”
Poor communication skills
Krishna District Private Engineering Colleges Association vice-president Gadde Rajalingam said poor communication skills, lack of confidence, body language, fear factor were the main reasons, where majority of the students were failing to secure jobs.
He said that this job fair was more focused to create a platform for those students who needed a little training and have got good academic records.
“With this, the students can easily secure jobs in reputed companies,” he said. He said that engineering students of Krishna district would get a big boost as the college managements and educational authorities are taking measures to impart communication skills as well as boost self-confidence with guidance, counselling and motivation.
Association president Muthavarapu Srinivasa Rao said that the fair would give an opportunity to thousands of students to interact with the company representatives of their choice. He said that the placement cells of the colleges were working well in guiding the students. “Majority of the students excelled in academics, but they are lacking soft skills like communication, attitude, and self confidence.”
