VIJAYAWADA: A six-year-old girl was raped by her acquaintance at Bodavada village in Veerulapadu mandal of Krishna district on Sunday night.
The girl’s family lodged a complaint at the Veerulapadu Police Station after which a manhunt for the accused, identified as Ganti Issac (27) of the same village, was launched.
The girl, her mother and grandmother were observing the 126th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar on Sunday night, when she decided to leave in the middle of the event.
When she was heading home, Issac, an acquaintance, waylaid her and took her to a water tank nearby where he sexually assaulted her. She screamed for help, but no one heard her.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother and grandmother, on noticing that the girl was missing, started searching for her. The grandmother rushed to the water tank on hearing screams and saw the man raping the girl, she tried to catch hold of the accused, but he pushed her off and fled.
