10 accidents, one killed, four injured

One person died and four others were injured in 10 separate accidents on New Year eve here on Saturday.  

VIJAYAWADA: One person died and four others were injured in 10 separate accidents on New Year eve here on Saturday.  

The traffic police registered 50 drunken driving and 10 accident cases. Many accidents were due to rash and negligent driving. Some of them ushered in the New Year by paying fines and receiving e-challans for triple riding and drunken driving.

In the first accident, one person died, after the bike they were travelling in hit a lorry, while trying to overtake the lorry on BRTS Road, Satyanarayanapuram police said. S Sai (20) died on the spot, while his cousin K Srinivas (22), who was riding pillion, is critically injured.

In another accident at Machavaram, three youngsters, triple riding a two-wheeler, were injured severely, after they crashed into a wall near SRR College. Matta Prasanth Raju (21), studying B Pharmacy, a native of Targoppala of Unguturu and Prabhu Das (20), an orphan, working in a church in Ramavarappadu sustained injuries on the head and chest. The third boy Khada Murali (18), a daily wage labourer received severe head injuries.
