‘Four Waters’ irrigation expert dead

Jana Reddy said that the four waters concept was an experiment being implemented by Rajasthan government.

HYDERABAD: T.Hanumantha Rao, former engineer-in-chief of irrigation department in the combined Andhra Pradesh and former consultant to the United Nations, passed away here on Sunday night. He was 86.He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.

Hanumantha Rao was popular across the globe for his ‘Four Waters Concept’ of watershed programme. Recently, his book on the four waters concept, ‘Hanumantha Rao Technology’, was released. At the book release function, Rao explained that the concept was adopted extensively in Rajasthan and in some other countries.

He advised the state government not to construct big barrages as part of the Kaleshwaram project. Irrigation minister T Harish Rao and R&B minister Tummala Nageswara Rao recalled the invaluable services rendered by Hanumantha Rao to the irrigation sector.

Opposition leader K Jana Reddy condoled the death of Hanumantha Rao. Jana Reddy said that the four waters concept was an experiment being implemented by Rajasthan government.
