GUNTUR: The competition celebrating the the strongest of bulls was inaugurated by Agriculture Minister P Pulla Rao at Chilakaluripet in Guntur district on Wednesday.

The pageant’s rounds included one that required the bulls to drag a large stone and another in which experts sat in judgement of the dental aesthetics of the unwitting animals that had been brought from different parts of Guntur, Krishna, and Prakasam districts.

The owners of the bulls guided the animals to pull a stone weighing 2 tonnes back and forth across a length of 300 feet in the time fixed by the organisers.
The large-hearted organisers of the event decorated the entire arena with sand “for the benefit of the bulls” that were made to pull the heavy stone.

Galleries were set up for the audience to see the competition. Referees Chall Srinivasa Rao and Surapaneni Radha Krishna who also doubled up as anchors noted the time taken and the number of trips made.
The competition will go on for another five days. Y Sambasiva Rao did the honour of bringing in stones of varying sizes for the competition. He said 23 bulls had participated in the competition on Wednesday and another 15 would compete on Thursday.
