Man in Vijayawada picking up lost SIM to harass women held

For the last three months, Shekar started harassing four women by sending messages and calling them often.

VIJAYAWADA: The city police arrested one person here on Sunday under the IT Act for harassing four women over the mobile. A police constable’s wife was among the victims who lodged a complaint against the culprit with the Krishna Lanka police station.

Based on the complaint, the police started search operations and traced him based on mobile tower signals.

According to the police, 23-year-old Palli Shekar alias Kalyan, native of Sarpavaram in Kakinada of East Godavari district, found a SIM card on the road four months ago.

After some days, he started calling women whose numbers were there in that SIM card. For the last three months, Shekar started harassing four women by sending messages and calling them often.

The accused used to scold using abusive language over phone and simply disconnect the call. If victims called back, Shekar didn’t respond. With the complaint given by the wife of constable, one among the victims, the police traced all other victims who were harassed by him.

On Sunday, the police arrested Shekar and booked him under the IT Act.
