GUNTUR: Kondaveeti Vagu, called the ‘Stream of Sorrow’, has started overflowing on Guntur - Amaravati road on Tuesday evening following heavy rain in the capital region. The water flow in the stream is steadily increasing at Yandrai.
Peekala Vagu is overflowing on Amaravati - Krosuru road. Mella Vagu is also in spate. It is overflowing at Narukullapadu on Amaravati - Guntur road. Vehicular traffic on Muthayapalem - Didugu road was disrupted. The overflowing streams inundated cotton and other crops in the adjacent areas.
Amaravati Development Authority Chairman J Veeranjaneyulu said the water level in Kondaveeti Vagu is being closely monitored to mitigate flood loss. Amaravati tahsildar A Bhaskar Rao inspected the inundated areas. Signboards cautioning people were set up at places where the streams are overflowing.
According to the Agriculture Department, Thullur has received the highest rainfall of 65.4 mm. The other mandals of the district recorded rainfall ranging from 15 mm to 50 mm. Farmers in the district have intensified their agricultural operations following heavy rainfall.
