Most wanted among four ganja smugglers arrested

A most wanted ganja smugglers, Srinivas alias Baba Chowdhary, along with three others were reportedly nabbed by Visakhapatnam Rural Police on Saturday late night.

VISAKHAPATNAM: A most wanted ganja smugglers, Srinivas alias Baba Chowdhary, along with three others were reportedly nabbed by Visakhapatnam Rural Police on Saturday late night.

The police nabbed the four while the latter were transporting around 500 kg of the hemp from the Visakhapatanam Agency to some other areas. The police have also recovered the weed, one motorcycle and three pistols from the possession of the accused.

Baba Chowdhary, hailing from Rajamahendravaram, is believed to be one among the kingpins of the hemp smuggling in the Agency areas of Visakhapatnam.

The other three have been identified as S Mahesh, V Dorababu and K Yesu Raju, all natives of various places in the Agency areas.

According to sources, the police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a vehicle check at Tallapalem Junction of Kasimkota in Anakapalle and caught Baba and three others. The seizure include one 9 mm pistol and two 6 mm pistols and nine 9 mm rounds.

Police sources said that Baba had been actively involved in the ganja smuggling for the last few years and has over 10 cases pending against him at Narsipatnam and Paderu in Visakhapatnam district and Devarapalli in East Godavari district police stations.
