Six buses seized for lack of speed governors in Visakhapatnam

The RTA authorities have issued a notice to all contract carriage bus owners to install speed governors which should not run at a speed beyond 80 kmph.

VISAKHAPATNAM: The RTA authorities have issued a notice to all contract carriage bus owners to install speed governors which should not run at a speed beyond 80 kmph. During a checking drive conducted at Lankelapalem junction on Tuesday, the department identified 10 buses running sans the speed limit device. While five buses were found flouting the speed norms.

As many as six buses were seized and driving licences of the drivers were temporarily suspended for three months. Also cases were booked against seven buses which are plying without alternative drivers and one bus was seized as it was plying with permit expiry. In a release on Tuesday, Venkateswara Rao said all the Volvo and Scania buses to immediately install the speed governors. Also every contract carriage bus which is run for more than five hours, must have alternative drivers.
