RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM : The organic vegetables cultivated in Agency areas are being supplied to rythu bazars in the city. As more people want to know where their food is coming from and what is being added to it, a farmer takes pride in selling organic leafy vegetables at the rythu bazar here.More and more consumers feel that organic vegetables are healthier due the absence of pesticide residues and contamination. With organic produce the consumers are happy, and the farmer too is happy as the input costs comedown drastically.
“With organic farming, our input costs have gone down and we earn a considerable profit,” a farmer said. Farmers say they are getting higher yield without using chemicals. And their customers do not mind paying for healthy vegetables. Agriculture Market Committee in association with APSRTC, Rajamahendravaram region has prepared a route map to supply vegetables to rythu bazars here from rural areas, said B Ramachandra Rao, District Special Officer, Rythu Bazars.
“We are selling organic vegetables brought from Manepalli village at special counters in rythu bazaars at Ganesh Chowk, Arts College and Nataraj Theatre. We will extend this facility to other rythu bazars soon,” he said. The official said that they have made all arrangements to sell value-based juices and pastes like cucumber, garlic, ginger from farm-to-home counters. “In these farm-to-home counters, we are able to have sales up to `20,000 per day,” he said.
Speaking to Express, Ramachandra Rao said that digital display boards have been installed at Ganesh Chowk, Nataraj Theatre and Arts College and installation at other bazaars will be completed by this week-end. “The boards will display the prices of vegetables. The CCTV cameras have already been installed at all the rythu bazaars,” he said.
