ONGOLE: The police on Monday night arrested 19 persons in connection with the attempt to murder 9 persons involved in a double murder case at Jarlapalem in Addanki mandal of Prakasam district on November 9.

Disclosing the details to the media at the Addanki police station, Darsi DSP P Nageswara Rao said the arrested belonged to Vemavaram village. Gorantla Venkateswarlu and 18 others plotted to kill nine persons when they were travelling in a car to attend Addanki court in connection with twin murders that took place on May 19 at Vemavaram in Ballikurava mandal.

The car in which the nine persons were travelling, overturned at Jarlapalem after being hit by a lorry engaged by the accused. On receipt of information, police immediately rushed to the spot. Due to the presence of police near the accident spot, the accused fled the spot.

An attempt to murder case was registered  against 19 persons under Section 307 of IPC on November 9 at the Addanki police station. It may be mentioned here that on May 19, P Anjaiah and V Ramakoteswara Rao, followers of TDP MLC K Balaram were killed by supporters of TDP MLA G Ravikumar. Three other followers of the MLC were also injured in the attack.
