HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court has issued notices to the Andhra Pradesh government to respond to a PIL filed complaining withdrawal of criminal cases booked against ‘tainted’ MLAs, including the Speaker and ministers, MLCs and other members of the ruling party.

The bench of acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice G Shyam Prasad was dealing with a PIL filed by Forum for Good Governance, an NGO represented by its secretary M Padmanabha Reddy, seeking cancellation of the 13 GOs issued for withdrawing prosecution against the tainted leaders who were allegedly involved in criminal cases. The petitioner’s counsel pointed out that the withdrawal of cases was confined to the legislators belonging to ruling party of the state.

AP’s advocate general Dammalapati Srinivas while seeking time to file counter affidavit in the matter, assured the court that the process of withdrawing criminal cases would not be taken forward. After recording the undertaking of the AG, the bench posted the matter to December 5 for filing counter affidavit.
