Women snatchers held, gold worth Rs 5.9 lakh seized

The DSP informed that the accused were involved in seven theft cases in which they stole over 50 grams of gold.

GUNTUR: The Urban Police have arrested two women who snatched handbags and wallets from people in public places and seized gold ornaments weighing 48 grams and are worth Rs 5.95 lakh.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Guntur DSP (East) K Srinivasulu said the accused, identified as Gandikota Venkata Lakshmi aka Nakka Manga from Rajamahendravaram and  Gandikota Bhavani alias Mariyamma from Vijayawada, targeted women in crowded areas such as hospitals and bus stations and snatched their belongings from them. 

The DSP informed that the accused were involved in seven theft cases in which they stole over 50 grams of gold. Recalling some of these cases, he said, “On October 20, they stole a black stone locket weighing at 44 grams from a victim at RTC Bus Stand; on October 22, they robbed a woman of her bag that had a gold chain weighing at 20 gram.”

Cases were registered and the duo were found to be involved in both of these incidents.
