Andhra Pradesh IB officials in Telangana to monitor Maoist movement: DGP RP Thakur

Meanwhile, TRS leader Talasani Yadav, on Tuesday called upon the people to chase away AP Intelligence sleuths if they were found anywhere in the State.

VIJAYAWADA/HYDERABAD: Responding to Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajat Kumar’s notice seeking explanation about the movement of AP Intelligence Bureau sleuths in Telangana, DGP RP Thakur said that the officials were only monitoring the movement of Maoists.

In a letter to the CEO on Tuesday, Thakur maintained that the AP officials posted in Telangana had nothing to do with the  Assembly elections. They were not involved in survey of the poll outcome either, he said.

Thakur also dismissed the allegations that the police personnel carried money to distribute among voters.
The Telangana CEO issued the notice to the DGP after three IB sleuths were caught by TRS workers at Dharmapuri in Jagtial district recently. After receiving the reply from Thakur, the CEO reportedly took the view of the Telangana police too. Telangana DGP M Mahender Reddy also told the CEO that they (AP IB officials) were deployed in confidential operations related to left-wing extremism.

“We have State intelligence unit operating from Telangana and our personnel were posted for monitoring the activities of Left Wing Extremism (LWE),” the DGP said in the letter and added that stringent action would be taken against AP cops if they were engaged in any activities other than those assigned to them.
