VIJAYAWADA: Tension prevailed in Pamarru on Sunday morning when Krishna district police prevented and arrested TDP leaders, who were on their way to lodge a police complaint in Gudivada against former Civil Supplies minister and YSRC leader Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao (Nani) for his derogatory remarks against TDP chief and Opposition Leader N Chandrababu Naidu.
Former ministers Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and Kollu Ravindra, Bachula Arjunudu, Buddha Venkanna and former APSRTC chairman Varla Ramaiah were taken into custody at Pamarru and shifted to Gudur police station. Later, they were let off. The TDP leaders had decided to lodge a private complaint with Gudivada police against Kodali Nani for making derogatory remarks against Naidu, Nara Lokesh and other TDP women.
Anticipating trouble following the meeting of TDP leaders at the party office, the police informed that there was no permission for taking out rallies and any kind of political gathering would create tension in the town, causing serious inconvenience to the public. The police also suggested that the TDP leaders lodge a complaint with a limited number of persons.
At Pamarru, the police stopped the car in which Uma, Ravindra, Ramaiah and Arjunudu were travelling. When the police asked them to return to Vijayawada, they did not heed the advice and locked themselves in the car creating a scene for more than one hour. The police, however, opened the car doors and shifted them to Gudur police station. Meanwhile, former MLAs Jayamangala Venkata Ramana and Bode Prasad and Pedana TDP in-charge K Krishna Prasad had managed to reach Gudivada.
