VIJAYAWADA: All set for Maha Padayatra from Amaravati to Arasavalli in Srikakulam district by farmers of Amaravati under the aegis of Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi. The walkathon is being taken up with the demand for retaining Amaravati as the only capital of Andhra Pradesh to safeguard the interests of farmers who gave their lands for the construction of the capital city.

Police have permitted the padayatra following the directions from the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Maha Padayatra will commence from Venkatapalem vilalge in Thullur mandal at 9 pm on Monday. The Yatra marks the completion of 1,000 days of protests by the Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi against the YSRC government’s proposal to set up three capitals. During the period, the State government had withdrawn the AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions and CRDA Repeal Acts following a legal battle with Amaravati farmers in the High Court.

However, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made clear that the two bills will be reintroduced in a more comprehensive manner. During the ensuing session of the State Assembly, which is scheduled to commence on September 15, the revised bills are likely to be introduced.
