TIRUPATI: A lorry carrying cabbage and capsicum was hijacked in a filmy style by five unidentified persons in the early hours of Friday near the Gandhanki Toll Plaza in Chandragiri mandal of Tirupati district.

The vehicle, en route from Bangarupeta to Rajahmundry, was later traced and recovered the same day near Koduru in Annamayya district through GPS tracking. The incident occurred on the Bengaluru-Chennai National Highway.

According to the complaint lodged by driver Charan Kumar, the gang intercepted the lorry, physically assaulted him, and drove off with the vehicle.

Chandragiri police registered a case and launched a probe. With help from the local police in Koduru, the lorry was located near Railway Kodur and taken to the police station for further examination.

This incident is part of a growing pattern of vehicle-related crimes in AP. In a major case earlier this year, over 900 Kia car engines were reported stolen from the company’s plant in Sri Sathya Sai district. The thefts, allegedly committed over five years, are believed to involve current and former staff; nine suspects have been arrested so far. Law enforcement remains on high alert as investigations continue.
