BANGALORE: The High Court on Tuesday increased the fine imposed by the lower court from Rs1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh on an accused in a fraud case.
R Shiva Reddy, a clerk in the Karnataka State Finance Corporation (KSFC), was accused of forging signatures of the manager of KSFC on two cheques and withdrawing Rs1.6 lakh in his father-in-law, M Venkatswamy Reddy’s name.
The Kolar District and Sessions Court had found both Shiva Reddy and Venkataswamy Reddy guilty and had imposed a fine of `1 lakh and sentenced them to one year imprisonment in 2004. The state had appealed against the sentence of the session court and so, Justice K Shridhar Rao on Tuesday enhance the fine from Rs1 lakh to Rs10 and sentenced them to one year imprisonment.
