SHIMOGA: Malenadu Veerashaiva Matadeeshara Parishat urged the BJP high command not to replace B S Yeddyurappa.
Shimoga Bekkinakal Mutt pontiff Mallikarjuna Murugarajendra Swamiji told reporters here on Tuesday that the change of leadership will have an adverse effect on the development of the state. After Yeddyurappa became the chief minister, the state witnessed all-round development, the seer added.
"I am not speaking in favour of Yeddyurappa because he is a Lingayat, but because he has been striving for development. He implemented various schemes for the welfare of all communities," the seer said.
"When Veerendra Patil and S R Bommai had lost the CM's post, Lingayats did not open their mouth. Today the situation is different. We are not supporting Yeddyurappa due to his largesse to mutts. All governments lend a helping hand to mutts," he said.
Development works will be stalled if the government is in a fix. Action should be initiated if the inquiry committee proves Yeddyurappa guilty, the seer said.
Siddeshwara Swamiji, Mahanta Swamiji and other pontiffs were present.
