BANGALORE: Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the advocate general to appear before the court and tell why Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) should not be wound up for the irregularities that have surfaced in the land acquisition process.

Justice D V Shylendra Kumar observed that the KIADB which was set up to acquire private land to develop industries had misused its power for the benefit of a few at the cost of the general public by acquiring their land in the name of public interest. He said the KIADB had adopted an attitude of evasiveness when asked about these issues. He added that it was high time that the board be wound up.

Justice Kumar was hearing a petition of one Mahesh K Chawla. He has alleged that the KIADB is acquiring 2,651.5 sq ft of land belonging to him at Peenya village for Jalahalli metro station even though it was not notified in the preliminary notification. Chawla has alleged that his land was being acquired to favour a few people whose land was included in the preliminary notification. Also, Chawla's petition states that the officials have threatened to forcibly evacuate him if he does not vacate his house.
