CHITRADURGA: Finally, students of Government Higher Primary school at Giriyapura in Hosadurga taluk have been relieved of the duty of carrying cooked mid-day meals from D Karpurakatte.

Taking serious note of a report featured in Express on July 25, which detailed about students carrying food and returning the empty vessels to the schools irrespective of the climatic conditions, Chitradurga zilla panchayat CEO N Jayaram has instructed education authorities to set up a mid-day meals unit in the school with immediate effect. The students were made to carry the food for the last three years.

Underlining the importance of education, he said, “I had taken the responsibility and shifted excess staff of D Karpurakatte school to start a cooking unit; a woman has been deputed at the place.” He added, “A representation to set up a separate mid-day meals unit at the school has been sent to the government for approval.

We will create a permanent set-up once the government clearance comes, until then this temporary set-up will work. This decision is taken to protect the students’ interests.”
