MYSORE: As part of an exchange programme, two Asiatic lions from Sakkarbaugh Zoo, Junagadh, Gujarat, arrived at Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysore on Tuesday.

Mysore Zoo had sent two lions - Manini, a 16-year-old lion and Arya, a 4-year-old, lion cub - and a famale cub to Tiger and Lion Safari, Tyavarekoppa in Shimoga, after approval from the Governing Council of Zoo Authority of Karnataka and Central Zoo Authority. Speaking to Express, Zoo Executive Director K B Markandaiah said: "The Asiatic lions that will be arriving here are aged between 7-8 years and feed on wild pigs, cattle, antelope and deer. The Asiatic lion, of which only 250 species exist today, can be found only in Gujarat."
