Gold recovered 6 months after owner’s death

Almost nine months after 378 grams of gold was burgled from their house, Dharanendraiah’s family has a reason to cheer as the police informed them that they have found the ornaments.

On March 19, the house of Dharanendraiah, who met with an accident on June 6 and died seven days later, was burgled and gold worth around `10 lakh was stolen.

The family spent around `6 lakh on his treatment.

On Wednesday, as part of a press conference called by the police department, the officials said that of the huge haul of 2.6 kg of gold recovered by them were the ornaments burgled from Dharanendraiah’s house.

His wife Rajini broke down when she saw her ornaments. IGP Amar Kumar Pandey said he regretted the delay in closing the case.

Rajini told Express on Wednesday that the couple had spent their savings on gold as an investment.

They used to mortgage gold, especially when they had to pay the fees of their elder daughter, who is a third-year MBBS student.

Their younger daughter who is in Class X, is also academically inclined, Ranjini  added.

Dharanendraiah used to work as a first divisional clerk in the Public Workds Department and Rajini is a middle-school teacher.
