State gears up for MLC polls

The police have made elaborate security arrangements for the Graduates and Teachers Constituency polls to the Legislative Council to be held on Sunday. The polling will be held between 8 am and 4 pm.

As many as 38 candidates are in the fray from the Graduates constituencies, including Chairman of the Legislative Council D H Shankaramurthy

32 more persons are contesting for the three seats from the Teachers constituencies, including sitting members Ganesh Karnik, Narayana Swamy, Ramachandra Gowda and Marithibbe Gowda.

Elections are being held to North-east, South-west and Bangalore Graduate Constituencies, South, South-east and South-west Teachers constituencies to the Legislative Council.

Key candidates in the  North-east Graduate constituency include Amarnath Patil (BJP), Kadadi Sharanabasappa (JD(S)) and Shivananda S Bhimalli (Congress) .

Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy has locked horns with S P Dinesh (Congress) and JD(S) candidate S L Bhojegowda in the South-west Graduates Constituency.

Ramachandra Gowda of BJP, K S Lakshmi (CPI(M)), A Deve Gowda (JD(S)) and Ramoji Gowda (Congress) are contesing the Bangalore Graduate constituency.

Y A Narayanaswamy (BJP), R Chowdareddy (JD-S) and K B Ramalingappa (Congress) are contesting South-east Teachers constituency.
